The Objective

Client Challenge

Red Bull wanted to create a high-energy, health-forward activation that aligned with its brand values of movement, athleticism, and pushing physical limits. The experience needed to:

  • Get people moving — literally
  • Encourage crowd participation and generate buzz at live events
  • Seamlessly track physical motion without requiring wearables or complex setup
  • Offer real-time feedback and instant rewards
  • Fit within a vending machine footprint with minimal staffing or support

They needed an experience that didn’t just reflect energy — it had to generate it.

Execution

Our Solution

BGWG Monster Media developed motion-tracking game software that ran directly on a vending machine with an integrated camera system. Fans were invited to break a sweat, rack up points, and win prizes — all in under a minute.

1. Choose Your Challenge

Participants began by selecting one of three exercises on the touchscreen: Jumping Jacks, High Knees, or Squats.

2. Get Moving

Using the vending machine’s front-facing camera and our custom motion-detection algorithm, the software tracked and counted reps in real time. A progress bar and rep counter kept users motivated as they performed the challenge.

3. Earn Points, Win Prizes

Based on performance — number of reps completed within a set time — users were rewarded with a tiered prize system. The vending machine automatically dispensed branded Red Bull merch, from sweatbands to full-size cans.

 

How We Exceeded Expectations
  • Frictionless Motion Tracking: No sensors or external devices were needed — our software used computer vision via a standard camera to track movement accurately and in real time.
  • High Throughput: The game was designed for speed and simplicity, allowing large numbers of users to participate quickly without technical delays.
  • Brand Fit: The activation perfectly captured Red Bull’s spirit — physical challenge, energy, and instant gratification — all in one compact, turnkey setup.
  • Data Ready: Optional session tracking allowed for rep count logging, participation stats, and prize distribution metrics.

Outcome

“WORKOUT FOR WIIINGS” became one of the most talked-about installations at the event, drawing in crowds with music, motion, and merch. Fans lined up to test their strength and leave with a prize — and Red Bull got a buzz-worthy, on-brand activation that literally kept people on their feet.
